Eighty-five-year-old Marjorie, grappling with fading memories, receives help from a handsome new companion who’s programmed to feed back only the best stories of her life. But given the chance, what would we remember, what would we forget? In this wondrous, touching, and clever new play, Jordan Harrison explores the mysteries of human identity, collective family memory, and the limits — if any — of what technology can replace.

Geordie Productions is presenting "Boys With Cars" on November 25th, Saturday @ 2pm. Commissioned by Nightswimming Theatre, in conjunction with Young People’s Theatre, Toronto.

*Content advisory: explicit language (swearing and sex terminology)
*Age 13+

An audacious pair of stories about the lives of young Canadian women, Boys With Cars is set in a Canadian high school where cultures collide, women struggle for status, and dancing raises the temperature of every moment. Featuring classical Indian, Bollywood and hip-hop music and choreography, the piece tells the story of Naznin, a classically trained dancer who dreams of leaving her small town for the bright lights of the city. Here, we are invited into her life and witness her struggle to balance her traditional heritage, her tumultuous relationships with the boys in her high school, and realizing her potential. It is a coming-of-age piece with tremendous comic flourish and potent dances, that is at once bold and innovative while being wildly funny and engaging.

Sisters In Motion III - Sept 16th

9/13/2017

Picture
SistersInMotion returns for a third edition! Bringing the same magic center-stage, our intention remains unchanged: to showcase the voices & vulnerability of Black, Indigenous and racialized sisters (what do we mean by "sisters"? https://tinyurl.com/y9pcdby8). By the simple act of sharing our stories, we discover our own power and create the community we all deserve. Our work and our words can no longer be denied for we have never been without a voice, rather the only thing we lack is a microphone. Come make magic with us this September 16th.

SistersinMotion also continues to call on the diversity and resiliency too often missing from many artistic, activist, and green initiatives here in the city. It is so important for all of us, but especially BIWOC and BIFOC, to reconnect to ourselves, each other and the Earth in a space that isn't extracting, exploiting or devaluing our labor and the land on which we proclaim our worth. Reconnection to the land. Reconnection to ourselves. Reconnection to each other.

In saying this, we'd like to acknowledge that this event is happening on unceded traditional Mohawk or Kanien’kehá:ka territories. That the First Nations and indigenous around the globe have helped pave the way for the different ways we heal today, whether through medicines or storytelling. For this, we hold gratitude, prayer, and solidarity in our hearts for our indigenous relatives.

ALL ARE WELCOME!! Please invite, share, and come out to enjoy a beautiful night of poetry, community and nature.

Jabber - ASL Interpreted Performance

2/16/2017

Geordie Productions presents...

Jabber - with ASL interpretation
March 25th, 7 - 8:15pm

Let’s say three actors play out a story that takes place in a high school. Let’s say one of them plays an outgoing Egyptian-born girl who wears a Hijab. Let’s say her parents made her change schools recently because of some graffiti that said, “All Muslims must die,” and that the guidance counsellor at her new school, Mr. E, is doing his best to help her fit in. Let’s say that a big part of his advice to her is to stay away from Jorah, a grade 10 guy who has challenges of his own (namely a temper that he inherited from his dad who’s in jail for beating up his mom.) But let’s say that maybe, just maybe, Fatima and Jorah start to, like, like each other…
