Synopsis: In March of 2000, a suitcase arrived from Auschwitz to the Tokyo Holocaust Educational Resource Centre in Japan with only “Hana Brady”, a birthdate and the word “Waisenkind” (orphan) written on its side. The children who saw the battered old suitcase on display were full of questions. Their curiosity led Fumiko Ishioka, the Centre’s curator, on a journey across Europe and North America to unveil the mystery of Hana Brady.
Since the true story of Hana’s Suitcase was first told in a radio documentary, it has appeared as an award-winning book translated into over 10 languages, a feature-length documentary and a stage play that garnered critical and audience acclaim throughout North America. Hana’s Suitcase, by Emil Sher, is produced by Young People’s Theatre in Toronto and will be directed by Allen MacInnis. Comments are closed.
